God’s Sovereignty (meaning His uncreated, always existent, immutable, irrevocable Creator/Sustainer control of His entire universe, every person, & every occurrence therein) from Genesis 1:1 to Revelation 22:21; Genesis 1:1-2:4.
The following are two, very practical, indisputable examples of His glorious, providential Sovereignty in the practical living of life day by new day:
Example 1:
On Saturday, July 1, 2023, our youngest grandchild (20 yrs old) left home in Wheeler, Texas at approximately 2am to drive 1,000+ miles to her married sisters in Georgia.
Sometime around noon her car broke down in Olive Branch, Mississippi, 720 miles from her starting point in Wheeler, Texas. She was able to get her car parked at a local food mart/gas station. As would be expected, she knew of absolutely no one she might know in Olive Branch, Mississippi. This being the case she called her two brothers who live in Cherokee County, Georgia to explain her situation. They told her they would come with a trailer to get her and her car but that they couldn’t get there before 7:30-8 that evening.
Having arranged for them to come to her “rescue” and expecting to sit in her car at the food mart for the next 6-7 hours, she called her mother, our daughter, back in Wheeler, Texas. When she told her she had broken down in Olive Branch, Mississippi her mom said “We have a cousin who lives in Olive Branch. Let me see if I have her number.”. She found the cousins number, called her and relayed the situation to her. Her response was “I’m leaving Krogers right now and I know exactly where she is so I’m in my way to get her now.”.
So, in God’s Sovereign, faithful, superintending providence, instead of spending the afternoon and part of the evening by herself, in a strange town, knowing no one, our granddaughter spent the next 6-7 hours having, by her testimony, an enjoyable time getting to know her cousin and her husband, cousins she didn’t even know she had.
Now, in consideration of the immutable reality of God’s infinite, Sovereign, faithful, superintending, providential control of His universe and every event therein, consider with me just one question:
“How many potential “break down” points could there be in a 1,000+ mile road trip?”
If you allow for 1 break down per mile then there would be 1,000+ potential “break down” points. However, if you consider that a mile is 5,280 feet and multiply that by the 1,000 miles of this trip, you have 5,280,000 feet, anyone of which would have the potential to be a point of “break down”. In order to gratefully and joyfully magnify the wonder of our God’s Omniscient, Omnipotent Sovereign, unceasing superintending control of every element of His created universe and the significance of that control to the individual life of every individual ever born (Psalm 139:16 (all); Acts 17:26), I’ll take this example one more step.
Consider, if you will, that a foot is made up of 12 inches. When that number is multiplied by the 5,280 feet in a mile and then by the 1,000 miles in the trip, the number of potential points of “break down” grows from the initial 1 per mile, to 5,280,000 per number of feet, to 63,360,000 per number of inches………and our granddaughter “just happened” to break down in Olive Branch, Mississippi where a cousin she didn’t even know she had, lived and came to her rescue?
For those professing believers who would attempt to explain this situation by attributing the potential points for a “break down” in a strange town to only find out you had relatives there who would gladly come to your rescue based on “odds” or “chance”, let me caution you that to do so is to, based on God’s Holy word, accuse Him of being a liar, which is tantamount to blasphemy (Nums 23:19). The Sovereign, providential common love and care of God for all men never has been, is not now, and never will be based on “odds” or “chance”. The truth is, there is no such thing as “odds” or “chance” in the sinless, Holy economy of God. What finite men call “odds” or “chance” is in reality, the immutable, predestined, manifest, providential control of our God over His wondrous creation as described in Genesis 1:1-2:4.

Example 2:
On July 21, 2023 a sever thunder storm with extremely strong winds passed thru our area from about 6:30-7:30pm. I stood in our garage and watched the trees in our front yard whipping violently back and forth in the wind and thought “I hope none of the limbs snap off in this wind.” When I went out the next morning to see if any damage had been done half of the tree on the right side of our driveway had snapped off. We own a 2001 F150 Ford pickup and a 2013 Honda Accord. The Honda is always parked on the right side of our driveway by that tree. The half of the tree, a full sized trunk with several additional limbs, that snapped off was the part closest to the Honda. My first look was from the opposite side of the Honda from where the trunk had fallen. So from my point of view, it appeared to have fallen on the entire drivers side of the Honda. That being the case, my first thought was “I wonder how much damage has been done to the car?”. Walking around the back of the Honda, as I looked down the tree side of the car, my heart and mind were immediately filled with gratitude, thanking God for His providential care, seeing that the tree had fallen as close to the car as possible without hitting it. If the tree had fallen 6-10” further to the right it would have landed on the side and top of the car.
Again, as stated in the case of our granddaughter’s car break down, in God’s Sovereign, faithful, superintending providence, instead of having a car with the side and top caved in by a falling tree, the tree fell within 6-10” from the car – Psalm 135:6.
And yet again as stated above, for those professing believers who would attempt to explain this situation by attributing the fallen position of this tree to “odds” or “chance”, let me caution you that to do so is to, based on God’s Holy word, accuse Him of being a liar, which is tantamount to blasphemy (Nums 23:19). The Sovereign, providential common love and care of God for all men never has been, is not now, and never will be based on “odds” or “chance”. The truth is, there is no such thing as “odds” or “chance” in the sinless, Holy economy of God. What finite men call “odds” or “chance” is in reality, the immutable, predestined, manifest, providential control of our God over His wondrous creation, including the falling of a tree 6-10”’s from damaging a car. The following passages testify to this gloriously revealed fact in God’s Holy word – Psalm 19:7-11.
Psalm 19:7-11:
7 The law of the Lord is perfect, restoring the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.
8 The precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.
9 The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; the judgments of the Lord are true; they are righteous altogether.
10 They are more desirable than gold, yes, than much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and the drippings of the honeycomb.
11 Moreover, by them Your servant is warned; in keeping them there is great reward.
Psalm 135:6-7; Job 37:6-7; Proverbs 21:1; 16:1,4,9,33 (v33 testifies to the non-existence of “odds” and “chance”); Jeremiah 29:11-13; Micah 7:7-8; Roms 8: 28; II Corinthians 2:14(12-14); Proverbs 21: 30-31.
Psalm 135:6-7: 6 Whatever the Lord pleases, He does, in heaven and in earth, in the seas and in all deeps. 7 He causes the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth; Who makes lightnings for the rain, Who brings forth the wind from His treasuries.
Job 37:6-7: 6 “For to the snow He says, ‘Fall on the earth,’ and to the downpour and the rain, ‘Be strong.’ 7 “He seals the hand of every man, that all men may know His work.
Proverbs 21:1: 1 The king’s heart is like channels of water in the hand of the Lord; He turns it wherever He wishes.
Proverbs 16:1,4,9,33:
1 The plans of the heart belong to man, but the answer of the tongue is from the Lord.
4 The Lord has made everything for its own purpose, even the wicked for the day of evil.
9 The mind of man plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps.
33 The lot is cast into the lap, but its every decision is from the Lord.
Jeremiah 29:11-13: 11 ‘For I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope. 12 ‘Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. 13 ‘You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.
Micah 7:7-8: 7 But as for me, I will watch expectantly for the Lord; I will wait for the God of my salvation. My God will hear me. 8 Do not rejoice over me, O my enemy. Though I fall I will rise; though I dwell in darkness, the Lord is a light for me.
Romans 8:28: 28 And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.
