Satan, the impotent liar – Jn 8:44(43-45); Hebs 2:14; Jn 10:28-29,30*; Roms 8; I Ptr 5:8; II Ptr 1:1-2,3-4:
*Jn 10:28-29,30: I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. 29 “My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. 30 “I and the Father are one.”
Webster’s 1828 Dictionary:
IM’POTENT, a. 1. Weak; feeble; wanting strength or power.
Merriam-Webster’s 2023 dictionary:
a. not potent: lacking in power, strength, or vigor: HELPLESS.
First, be mindful as a believer, that out of 25 references to a “thief” in the NASB, there is no direct or specific Biblical reference to Satan as a “thief”. In John 10:1 & 11 Christ speaks generally of a thief that, by implication, is clearly referring to Satan, but nowhere is he labeled as such directly & specifically. A liar? Yes. But by direct reference, a thief? No. Why is this? Because in the Sovereign, providential, unassailable, indestructible, elective order of God’s Omniscient, Omnipotent economy, Satan never has had, does not have now, & never will have any power to affect, in any way, the eternal security of every elect child of God —- Ephs 1:3-6; Gen 3:15; Is 53; Lu 2; Jn 1:1-14; 14:1-6; 20-21; Acts 1:9-11; Jn 14:26; Acts 2:1- 4; I Cor 3:16-17; 2:15-16; I Jn 2:20,27; Roms 8: 1-4,26-39:
Roms 8:1: 1 Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
Now, consider the glorious, immutable fact that Satan has no capacity to rob you as God’s child, as a true believer (Ephs 1:3-6; I Ptr 1:3,4- 5,6a), of anything but your joy in Christ. And, he can only do that when you fail to believe & trust & obey His command to you, as His child, to “be anxious for nothing…..” (Phil 4:6-7; Js 1:12-15; I Ptr 5:8, 9-10), “resisting him” (Satan) firm in your faith in Him (God), quietly trusting Him with a joyful, glad, cheerful heart & mind (Phil 4:4-5; I Thess 5:16,17-18), day by fresh new day (Ps 118:24; Mt 6:33-34; I Thess 4:9-12).
Satan can’t rob you of your salvation; your eternal inheritance as God’s child; your being received now, in Christ by God as holy, blameless, & above reproach, having already been made complete in Christ(Col 2:9-10(9- 15); 1:22-23; I Ptr 1:3,4-5,6a; Roms 8:1-4,26- 39).
*Jn 8:44: 44 “….there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies.
